What do we make of the contrast between heroic teachers who stand up to a gunman and craven, feckless politicians who won’t stand up to the N.R.A.?
I’m sorry to those of you who disagree, or who just don’t want to hear about it, but we have to at least have the conversation. We can rationally take different sides of an argument, but we can’t bury our heads in the sand any longer. Twenty dead six- and seven-year olds deserved more from us. My children deserve more from us. They deserve more from me, and in my silence, I’ve been complicit.
